WINNEBAGO COUNTY, Ill. – Following the departure of Chief Financial Officer David Rickert last month, who served in that role for just over two years, the Winnebago County Board Office began the recruitment process to fill the CFO vacancy. After a selection committee conducted a national search and reviewed several applications from qualified candidates, County Administrator Patrick Thompson recommended the appointment of Steve Schultz to the position of Chief Financial Officer.

A resident of Roscoe, Illinois, Schultz offers more than 30 years of experience in the finance industry, as well as experience as a certified public accountant. From 2008 until 2022, Schultz served four terms of elected office on the Winnebago County Board Member as the District 3 representative. During that time, Schultz also served on both the Finance and Zoning Committees.

"Steve's familiarity with the inner workings of County government will lend itself well to his success in this new role," said Thompson. "That paired with his professional background made him the clear choice for the job, and I look forward to working with him in preparing our annual operating and capital budget."

The appointment was approved by the Winnebago County Board on Thursday evening, and Schultz will embark on his new career effective immediately.

"I am grateful for this opportunity to serve the County in a new way," Schultz said. "This is a chance to collaborate across many departments, and I am hopeful for how I can contribute to the work being done in Winnebago County in a positive way."

"Mr. Schultz will make an excellent addition to our County Administration and we will lean into his extensive experience as we navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead," said Winnebago County Board Chairman Joe Chiarelli. "I am eager to work with him as we prioritize our capital improvement plan and other initiatives to continually improve the economic outlook of Winnebago County."

The next Winnebago County Board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 22, 2023 at 6 p.m.
