WINNEBAGO COUNTY, Ill. – In an effort to improve the safety of the public and employees at the Winnebago County Administration Building, additional security measures will go into effect next week.

Beginning Monday, October 2, 2023 the main entrance of the Winnebago County Administration Building, located at 404 Elm Street, Rockford, Illinois 61101, will require members of the public to enter through security during hours of operation. Metal detectors in the main lobby will be staffed by Winnebago County Sheriff's Office personnel from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. or later for public meetings, as deemed necessary.

To assist with this transition, the 2nd floor east entrance connecting to the South Church Street parking garage will no longer be a public entrance. It will be accessible for county employees only and require a key card to gain entry. All other citizens may be redirected to the main secure north entrance on Elm Street.
