Traffic Safety Action Plan
Winnebago County in collaboration with Region 1 Planning Council has developed a traffic safety action plan to address identified transportation safety concerns in Winnebago County. The plan's development was funded by a USDOTs Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) planning grant. The purpose of the SS4A program is to improve roadway safety by significantly reducing or eliminating roadway fatalities and serious injuries. The draft plan highlights safety emphasis areas that can be targeted to reduce serious injuries and fatalities on roadways within Winnebago County. A robust data analysis identifies the roadway segments and intersections that pose the greatest safety threat in the County, informing the strategies and action items included in the plan. It should be noted that the City of Rockford is also in the process of developing their own safety action plan within the City's boundaries
A final draft of the plan has been completed, and is now available for public comment. The document can be reviewed at the link below. Winnebago County and Region 1 Planning Council welcome public input on the plan's contents.
