Chairman & Mayor’s Youth Leadership Council Seeks New Youth Leaders For 2023-2024 School Year

Chairman & Mayor's Youth Leadership Council Wraps Up The Year and Seeks New Youth Leaders For 2023-2024 School Year

Winnebago County, IL - The Chairman and Mayor's Youth Leadership Council (YLC) congratulates its five (5) graduating senior members and seeks new members for the 2023-2024 school year. Applications and nominations are now being accepted.

YLC members participate in interactive educational sessions, special events, group community projects, and youth advisory meetings with discussions attended by the City of Rockford Mayor Thomas McNamara, Winnebago County Board Chairman Joe Chiarelli, and/or other civic leaders.

This year, the YLC coordinated a Community Town Hall attended by approximately sixty (60) individuals to discuss transportation concerns in Winnebago County and the City of Rockford. YLC members gained experience with public speaking, marketing, and hosting a large event. YLC members also developed and shared messaging for National Prevention Week (May 12-18, 2024), to raise awareness among youth and parents about the importance of substance misuse prevention.

Students who want to join the YLC for next year can apply now by completing the application here on the Winnebago County Health Department website publichealth.wincoil.gov.

NO EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY!

Teachers, principals, coaches, community leaders, elected officials or any person/agency who works with youth are also encouraged to nominate students! Nomination forms can be found here.

Students must meet the following requirements:

Winnebago County sophomores or juniors in high school (returning YLC members may be seniors)

Interest in learning more about leadership, public policy, community health and local government

Able to attend at least 70% (11 out of 15) of Youth Leadership Council meetings

Self-starters with the potential to develop into a future leader of our community
