County Clerk’s Office issues petition packets for spring primary election

WINNEBAGO COUNTY, Ill. – Winnebago County Clerk Lori Gummow announces that petition packets for established party candidates running for local offices at the March 19, 2024 General Primary Election are now available in-person or online.

Petition packets are available for Democratic and Republican Party candidates for the following local offices: Chairman; Coroner; Auditor; State's Attorney; Circuit Clerk; and County Board districts 2, 3, 11, 12, 13, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20.

"It is our goal to offer ample opportunity for candidates to get their paperwork submitted prior to the deadline," said Clerk Gummow. "I encourage all candidates who are considering running for elected office to review their nomination papers, signature requirements and filing information to ensure a smooth process leading up to the spring primary election."

The first day for candidates to circulate nominating petitions is September 5, 2023. Nominating papers may be filed in person or by mail at the Election Office (404 Elm Street, Room 101, Rockford, IL 61101). The Clerk's Office will be open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday to accept filings. If mailed, petitions must be received during the filing period in order to be considered timely.

The filing period for petitions begins Monday, November 27, 2023 at 8 a.m. and the final day to file is Monday, December 4, 2023 at 5 p.m. Petitions received prior to the first day and after the last day of filing will be returned to the candidate.

The Illinois State Board of Elections creates a Candidate's Guide and an Election and Campaign Finance Calendar for each election cycle. These documents provide guidance on circulating and filing nominating petitions, campaign disclosure requirements, candidate filing periods, and other important dates.
